Step Into The Wind

 

Den Helder is world famous in the Netherlands mostly because of its windy conditions. Besides that Den Helder also has the most hours of sun during the Dutch summers. Late august that can lead to a beautiful IKSA Eurocup weekend with great sunsets. But Den Helder has more to offer. The locals of the old village Huisduinen will show you their generous hospitality.

 

 

 

In 2009 we organised a promo-footbike-event named de Kaap van Lange Jaap or in English the Cape of Long Jaap.
Where the Long Jaap is the large and photogenic lighthouse of Den Helder. The event turned out into a great success and this year it’s even on the international scooter-calendar as a IKSA Eurocup by the name of Step into the Wind.

On saturday august 28 en sunday august 29 we will host in association with the Marinebedrijf, the Dutch Naval Establishment, some great footbike-races. On saturday there will be a 800 meter sprint and a relay. On sunday there is a tough long race over approximately 42 km.

 

 

The sprint on saturday will be on the outside of the seawall. The relay will be going through Huisduinen, an old whalers village. We expect a lot of enthousiastic locals surrounding the track to yell “bravo, bravo”, “brava, brava” or “allez, allez” to the participants. After the relay we will have a diner party on a special location. The long race will be switching inward and outward of the 10 km long seawall-track with some short but tough climbs over the top of the 20 meters high seawall.

As far as the organisation is concerned, this weekend will be a great sportive and otherwise excellent weekend, like every footbike-event always is. We hope to welcome you the weekend of the 28th and 29th of august in Den Helder!
